MPs call on BAE to explore jobs claim

MPs David Davis and Alan Johnson have called on BAE Systems to explore claims that more than 100 jobs at the Brough site could be saved.

Union bosses claim work for more than 100 people has been subcontracted out to the company’s supply chain.

About 700 jobs remain under threat at Brough.

Now, Mr Davis and Mr Johnson have written to BAE chief executive Ian King asking him to explore the claims as a “matter of urgency”.

Mr Davis, Conservative MP for Haltemprice and Howden, and Mr Johnson, who is Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle, have now written to Mr King.

They wrote: “It is our understanding that bringing this work in-house is perfectly feasible.

“For example, it has been claimed that detailed small works, such as the creation of brackets and small assembly build for the Hawk has been contracted out to smaller firms, in some cases, with a guarantee of work for a number of years. “We would be very grateful if you could ensure these issues are fully explored as a matter of urgency.”
