David Davis MP welcomes the announcement that East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been successful in securing more than £700,000 to help tackle fuel poverty, reduce energy bills and promote energy efficiency in the region.
David Davis MP said;
“This is great news for the residents of East Riding and in particular my constituents of Haltemprice and Howden, who have seen fuel poverty creep up over the last few years.
In 2010 there were around 6100 households in Haltemprice and Howden in fuel poverty. Fuel poverty is defined as when a household needs to spend more than 10% of its income on fuel to maintain a satisfactory heating regime.
The number of households in Haltemprice and Howden considered to be experiencing fuel poverty has remained at a consistent level over the last two years, averaging just above 16%. This puts Haltemprice and Howden below the average figure of 17.9% of households across East Riding experiencing fuel poverty. It is important that fuel poverty is addressed wherever it occurs.
So far this year we have already seen snow and wide spread flooding across the region, this additional funding will help to ensure that the most venerable people are able to afford to heat their homes. The Council’s announcement of this new funding will certainly offer good news to many across the region.”
