David Davis urges Prime Minister to “think again” about BAe merger
The Hull Daily Mail report that David Davis MP has written to the Prime Minister urging him to “think again” about the proposed merger between BAe Systems and EADS.
“Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis has written to the Prime Minister urging him to “think again” about supporting a merger between BAE Systems and its competitor EADS.
Mr Davis – one of 45 signatories – also says a debate in Parliament is “absolutely necessary” and “unavoidable”. Up to 200 employees are at risk at the Brough base in Mr Davis’s constituency and he recently voiced fears about further job losses as a result of the merger.
In the letter, the MPs express concern that the UK’s industrial and national interests could be jeopardised by the tie-up.
They also argue that a merger would lead to a loss of intellectual property and strategic control while undermining the UK’s defence position.”
