MPs urge Prime Minister to halt port regulations
EAST YORKS: Prime Minister David Cameron has been urged to stop new European regulations from “damaging” the UK’s ports industry and undermining investment from companies like Siemens.
Hull East MP Karl Turner and Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis have signed a letter asking him to halt the proposed EU Port Services Regulation to “protect the national interest”. The proposals will involve new complex tendering procedures and affect the ability of ports to thrash out commercial deals.
Mr Turner said: “I am very concerned these proposals will interfere with the commercial freedoms of our ports and undermine investment from companies such as Siemens.
“Our ports rely on the EU money and support but on this policy I think the European Commission needs to think again.”
