David Davis MP welcomes the launch of the fair school funding consultation
Yesterday the Government launched their consultation on fair school funding.
The consultation follows the Secretary of State’s announcement in last year’s Autumn Statement that a new National Funding Formula will be launched from 2017/18 onwards.
This will end the current regional imbalance where the ten best funded areas of England receive an average of £6,300 per pupil of schools block funding, compared to just £4,200 in the ten worst funded areas – with no objective basis for the difference.
In response to the launch of the consultation, David Davis MP said:
“This is a very positive step forward for the fair school funding campaign.
In December I, along with other members of the cross-party f40 group, presented a public petition to Parliament calling for the funding formula to be overhauled.
Haltemprice and Howden had the biggest response to the petition out of all the constituencies across England, with nearly 3,000 teachers and parents signing the petition.
This shows the strength of feeling across the constituency and highlights the desire of parents, and schools, to end a system under which thousands of pounds less is spent on the education of some children, simply because of where they happen to live.
This consultation now represents a great opportunity to keep up momentum on this important campaign and ensures that the voices of education leaders and parents are heard.”
