David Davis MP warns against scam targeting the elderly
As reported in the Hull Daily Mail:
David Davis MP has warned of the dangers of a phone scam where fraudsters use courier firms to help defraud elderly and vulnerable victims of their life savings.
Of this scam David Davis MP said:
“The increase of these types of scams is very worrying. I would ask that friends and family of the elderly make them aware of the scam, how it works and what to do if they’re targeted. Scammers are using the economic climate to prey on people who are struggling to find work or battling with money problems.
Whilst delivering leaflets door to door for our new Howdenshire councillor Victoria Aitken earlier this month, I was encouraged to see that many residents of Haltemprice and Howden had ‘No Cold Caller’ signs clearly displayed in their windows. Along with this awareness of doorstep sellers it is vital that people are aware of these scams run via the telephone.”
