David Davis speeds up East Riding flood relief
As published in the Hull Daily Mail:
East Riding: Calls have been made to ensure victims of December’s flooding receive all the help they can.
Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis has called for East Riding Council to approve proposed flood relief measures and for the Government to speed up the process of making the schemes available.
The Government has announced schemes to help households, businesses and farmers affected by the severe weather between December 1and March 31, including the worst tidal surge to affect the UK for several decades caused major floods in Hull and other East Yorkshire coastal areas.
The measures offered include a one-off Government scheme to provide additional flood resilience measures for homes and businesses flooded, along with business rates relief and council tax discounts
Mr Davis said: “The proposed measures will bring relief to those hit by the recent bad weather and this is to be welcomed.
“However, the Government needs to speed up the process.
“Too many people have been left waiting for assistance and it is vital they receive help as soon as possible.”
