MP David Davis has met Smith & Nephew leaders to discuss the sale of its factory in Gilberdyke.

The facility is being bought by American firm DelStar and will continue making plastic nets and foams.

Some staff will stay on and others will transfer to Smith & Nephew’s Hessle Road site.

Mr Davis said: “They were pretty positive.

“In the longer term, it will be good news.

“In the shorter term, we have to mitigate job losses.”
