David Davis comments on the Government’s decision to end subsidies for new wind farms

Today the Department for Energy and Climate Change announced that the Government will close the Renewables Obligation scheme across Great Britain to new onshore wind generating stations from 1 April 2016.

In response to today’s announcement, Mr Davis has said:

“It is pleasing to see the Government implementing one of the key Conservative manifesto commitments.

This is excellent news for the East Riding, where for too long the interests of the public have been ignored. There has been a gross over development of wind turbines in the area with 126 turbines now blighting the landscape.

Importantly it also means that consumers will no longer be saddled with the huge cost of these subsidies, which are passed on to them via their energy bills.

In addition to the measures announced in last month’s Queen’s Speech, which will give local communities the final say on onshore windfarm applications, today’s announcement is an important step forward in the fight to protect our beautiful countryside.”
