David Davis comments on news that the number of businesses has increased in Haltemprice and Howden

In response to news that the number of small and medium-sized businesses rose in Yorkshire and Humber and Haltemprice and Howden constituency last year, David Davis MP has said:
“This is excellent news.  Today there are over 3000 more small and medium sized businesses in Yorkshire and Humber than there were this time last year.  The huge growth of small and medium-sized businesses is a vital boost for the local economy and a huge vote of confidence in the region. I am particularly delighted to see that, on average, two new businesses started every week in my constituency in 2012.

These figures show that growth and job creation is coming from small businesses, not big companies.  Employment in Yorkshire and Humber increased by almost 4% last year.  Haltemprice and Howden is now home to over one hundred more SMEs than it was twelve months ago and employment is up 10%.

The government should recognise this and do more to support our small businesses by reducing regulation and introducing a two year national insurance holiday for all new jobs they create.”
