MP hits out over firm’s environmental offences

Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis has hit out at City Plant Ltd for allowing issues regarding its landfill site at Gilberdyke to end up in court.

The company has been convicted of five environmental offences. It was prosecuted by the Environment Agency after repeated compla- ints about a bad smell.

At the hearing on Tuesday, the firm adm- itted failing to comply with enforcement notices requiring it to collect landfill gas.

Mr Davis said: “It is a tragedy that a supposedly reputable company has had to be dragged to court to ensure they uphold their responsibilities to the community.

“There are now ongoing negotiations between both parties’ legal teams and the Environment Agency must use the leverage it now has to ensure City Plant Ltd fulfils all its obligations within a strict court-enforced timetable.”

Sentencing will take place on April 15.
