David calls closure of Leeds children’s heart unit “deeply disappointing”

MPs have voiced their concerns over the decision to stop children’s heart surgery in Leeds. The decision by the Joint Committee of Primary Care Trusts affects East Yorkshire children, who will now be forced to travel more than 100 miles to Newcastle, or other centres, for surgery.

The decision was made as part of a review of children’s heart surgery services in England.

Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis said: “The decision to end children’s heart surgery at Leeds is deeply disappointing for patients and their families, and for the half a million people in Yorkshire who signed a petition last year calling for surgery to be saved.”
