David Davis MP organises meeting to address concerns over height of rubbish tip

As reported in the Hull Daily Mail;

“Concerns over the height of a giant rubbish tip near Gilberdyke will be raised later this week.

The tip, which overlooks the M62 motorway, has been the focus of protests by nearby residents for more than a year after operators City Plant Ltd exceeded agreed height limits.

Now, it has emerged the mountain of waste could be set to be rise again because of concerns over surface water run-off.

Newport Parish Council chairman Roy Hunt said: “Because of the way the tip has been constructed, it has a completely flat top. When it rains, it turns into a ten-acre puddle.

“We objected to the shape of the tip back in February but the Environment Agency said it would OK.

“Now, it seems they have changed their mind and want the top of the tip built up for better surface water run-off.

“I find it amazing they can agree with something one minute and then change their opinion on it nine months later.”

Friday’s meeting has been organised by Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis.”
